MWRT part 8: Over the Wasatch Front

When I'm navigating, I don't always take the most direct route. Our drive from Idaho to Heber City was a perfect example of this. I saw a little road out of Salt Lake City that wound up over the Wasatch Front, and suggested that it might be the most direct route to our destination. While it likely was, SR 190 was full of switchbacks, steep grades without guard rails, and spectacular views.

The route we chose took us past the Brighton and Solitude ski areas, on the back side of Park City. As we passed the second ski area, we nearly missed the turn onto the summer-only road over the pass. The top of the route was covered with Queen Anne's Lace and Indian Paintbrush in full bloom.

On the other side, we dropped down into Wasatch Mountain State Park. The freshly paved pass gave way to rough county road, and we were once again glad to have AWD and independent suspension! The valley opened up below us, and we headed towards Soldier Hollow for the family reunion...
