MWRT part 6: Flathead Lake Breakfast

We left Kalispell on Saturday morning, packing the tent and the rest of our worldly possessions into the Rav4 and pointing it South towards Utah. On our way, we stopped at a state park on the shores of Flathead Lake. It was beautiful. The water was warm (except where a stream poured into the lake!) and almost tropical looking.

Our breakfast kit was easy to pull out and set up. We travel with all of our kitchen supplies in a Rubbermaid tub, which doubles as a prep surface when we cook on the side of the road. It has the same footprint as the Coleman stove, so the two stack neatly in the back of the car. In other words, we don't have to unload everything just to make breakfast!

Besides the "super oats" mentioned earlier, we packed some Grizzly Cakes pancake mix from Costco. With the same toppings of peanut butter, butter, and chocolate chips, it's great fuel! We bought a travel sized container of pancake syrup for M after the first day, and it nicely rounded out our breakfast fuel.

Here is a basic list of the contents of our camp kitchen:

  • Coleman camp stove and fuel
  • Nonstick pan
  • pancake flipper
  • Pot for heating water (for oats, coffee, pasta... also doubles as a mixing bowl)
  • paper plates
  • paper towel
  • bag of utensils
  • dish soap
  • plastic bowels x2
  • knife
  • cutting board
