Really, we are excited to be here. Just a little tired. |
After a 6 hour drive full of traffic, "Rude" on the radio, and occasional tickle fights, we finally found our little hotel in Siegertsbrunn on the outskirts of München. So did nearly a million other people, and as we rode the S-bahn into downtown there was an unusual busyness in the city. There were also black thunderheads rolling our way.
Of course our first stop was the
Hofbräuhaus (HB, the court brewery). To John's disappointment, the HB was packed to the gills. Not an empty seat or dry table in the house. Neither were there seats in Augustiner am Platzl, or Wirthaus Ayinger, or at any other restaurant on the Platzl. Approaching thunder discouraged us from taking an outside table.
I remembered seeing a
Steyrisch restaurant on the market square, so we headed that direction just in time. As we stood under the awning browsing menu, the rain started. That decided it for us.

Why is there no Käsespätzle? |
The light rain picked up as we ordered our Augustiners (the former Pope's favorite) and figured out washday we wanted. Our poor waitress was walking back and forth in heavy rain. We pulled our chairs closer to the building and laughed at our inability to stay dry.

Erin and John let Anna and I order for them. |
By the time dinner arrived, it was deluge. A waterfall poured of the end of the awning. John went after an umbrella that blew away and was absolutely drenched as his Zwiebelroastbraten arrived. It was worth it, though. Our food was delicious! We passed plates around the table to try the Tafelspitz, Zwiebelroastbraten, and Schnitzel.
