Let's say, hypothetically, that you have a spring weekend to spend in Vancouver, BC. What should you do with them? Here's what I did with two of my friends last Saturday and Sunday.
North and West Vancouver from Stanley Park |
We arrived in Vancouver early in the afternoon on Saturday. It was dumping rain and didn't let up all day, so we went directly to Granville Island and scurried from shop to shop. By the time we were ready for lunch, we had made our way to the public market... where we had almost too many options!
In the afternoon, we headed over to UBC to visit the Museum of Anthropology. Their collection of totem poles, bentwood cedar boxes, masks... a cross section of the remains of our native culture. In the evening, we crashed with my extended family (who were great hosts!) on the east side of town.
In the morning, after a great breakfast in New Wesminster and a walk on the boardwalk, we headed to Lynn Canyon. The sky was clearing and the mountains came out! The parking lots were packed and the bridge was busy, but we managed to find a fairly quiet spot along the water and hiked a loop on the east side of the canyon.
After sitting in traffic, we finally crossed the Lions Gate bridge and headed to Stanley Park for a sunny walk along the sea wall. Look who we found having his lunch on the rocks at low tide!
After a few hours meandering around downtown (Robson Square, Chinatown, Gastown, the waterfront...) we battled the traffic back out of town. We had hit the highlights and were ready to crash!
