Mumsy Arrives in Quebec City

Mumsy came with me to Quebec this past week. I have three days of training here, she had a birthday to celebrate and very much enjoys the city. It seemed like a perfect plan! Flying in on Friday, we immediately launched into a weekend of food, history, food, outdoor adventure, and more food.

We found the costume closet...
For the first time in my dozen-ish trips to Quebec, Air Canada lost a piece of our luggage en route to YQB. Those gate checkers in Vancouver put Mumsy's bag onto the carousel in Montreal! Fortunately, Mumsy always packs her toothbrush in her backpack and wasn't about to let their mistake slow down our adveture! Our first stop, of course, was Marcus's and my favorite crepe place, Le Billig. They were packed, but there was a table free in the newly-added bar area where we dug into delicious crepe. Yummm, buckwheat and mushrooms and cheese...

The next morning, we walked down to le Petit Champlain area for breakfast. I was hungrily dragging Mumsy through the gate, past the Fairmont, and down the stairs as she tried to take pictures of the perfect French Colonial houses and stone construction. She burst into oohs and aahs of happiness, so I think it was the correct choice. Especially when our waiter offered us a "cup, or a bowl" of café au lait.
Espresso bowl bliss
Yes, that's a personal cast-iron maple fried egg with bacon
Having stuffed ourselves on bacon, ham, beans, egg, fruit, baguette, brie, and all the other good things at le Lapin Sauté, we wandered around the corner to Place Royale. Neither of us had ever been through the museum, so we decided to go and learn a little about Quebec history. In the 16th century basement level, there was a display of a cooper's house... with a large room full of costumes! We spent the next 30 minutes swapping empire-waisted dresses over our street clothes. My green Vancouver Canucks shirt under a red dress had Mumsy in stitches. You can't see it in the photos, but she's busting up laughing in every one of these photos!

She could hardly take this photo for giggling!

More photos and stories to come as Mumsy shares her photos with me.... Suffice it to say for now that the Museum on Place Royal is delightful. From the display of the archaeological finds to the interactive displays to the 3D movie in their theater, it's great fun!
