Mt Pilchuck

M and I have been saying for over a year that we should be hiking more. We had a chance to get out over the 4th of July weekend and go somewhere I'd never been: Mt Pilchuck.

Looking South across the Cascades

It was a busy day on the trail, and we cruised up to the mile-high peak past families, dogs, friends, and lots of wincing feet. About half way  up, the trail comes out of the woods and begins to criss-cross scree slopes of massive boulders. When you finally get to the top, there is a final push up the ladder to the whitewashed fire lookout.
At the top

Like so many other hikers, we sprawled on the boulders below the fire lookout like lizards in the sun. We took a minute to rest our feet, refuel with cliff bars, finish our water bottle, and prepare for a boot-pounding trek back downhill.

Happy hikers
